West Virginia is becoming home of the champions. Recently the “World’s Strongest Men” competed in Charleston, with WV native Phil Pfister coming in 4th place (he won it all in 2006). Well, the next round of competitors may not be able to win a fight with the giant men who roamed Charleston the past two weeks, but they can certainly sing them under the table.

NewSong, a WV-owned and Mountain Stage-affiliated organization who runs international singer-songwriter contests and workshops, is holding their NewSong Festival championship round of competition at the Cultural Center on October 11 at 7:30pm. Regional winners from twelve regions such as Atlanta, New York and Seattle will make their way to the Mountain Stage with the winner performing on our venerable WV Public Radio show the next evening of October 12.
Huntington’s own Jeff Ellis was the Southeast Regional winner, so make sure to root for the home boy.
Tickets are available now and are a ridiculous bargain at $10 considering all the talent you will experience. Businesses interested in sponsoring this fantastic event are encouraged to contact [email protected].
