
WVGreenWorks and The Building Conference organizers are pleased to announce the 2014 Placemaker Awards event, a celebration of high performance buildings, communities and people. Residential, commercial, and community projects in West Virginia, along with their project owners, designers, and technical teams will be recognized for outstanding achievement in design, construction, public works, and advocacy on Monday evening of the Create WV | Building Conference double header in Glenville, WV, October 27, 2014. Nominations are to be submitted by October 15, 2014 via the online Nomination Application found HERE.
Nominations will be accepted only via the ONLINE APPLICATION. Digital project pictures are required.
There is no limit to the number of nominations that will be accepted.
There are two categories of awards:
A. Green Building Projects
Green Building Projects may be registered or certified under any third party green building rating system, including:
- LEED rating systems
- Green Globes
- Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS)
- Enterprise Foundation Green Communitie
- EarthCraft House
- NGBS Green Homes
- The Passive House
- Energy Star
- Net Zero
Nominations for outstanding green building projects will be judged on a series of sustainable measures including, but not limited to: Innovation in sustainable design, environmental impact, social benefit, community involvement, and achievement within green building rating systems.
B. Leadership, Inspiration, Stewardship Awards Nominations may be people, projects, initiatives and organizations that have demonstrated or inspired innovative approaches to sustainable or green building market transformation, community organization and change.
Unbuilt Work – Can be project “on hold,” competition entries, feasibility studies, or student work.
Leadership– NO PROJECT BOARD REQUIRED. For organizations (profit or non-profit), firms or individuals, or others who demonstrate leadership in sustainable design, environmental impact, social benefit, community involvement, and achievement within green building rating systems. Award nominees should embody the attributes expected of a green building leader and achievements that demonstrate excellence, exemplify the intent and spirit of the green building movement, and have made a significant impact in advancing the green building movement within their sector. The awards should be considered for people and organizations that have helped elevate the awareness of the green building movement throughout the world and are role models through their accomplishments and professional and personal contributions.
Individuals or organizations can be nominated in one of the three awards categories:
- Public Sector Leadership, to honor the individuals, departments, agencies, K-12 public schools or school systems, public colleges or universities, or other government bodies at the local, state and national levels of government.
- Private Sector Leadership, to honor individuals or companies, divisions of companies, retailers, for-profit healthcare organizations, or professional service firms.
- NGO (Non-Government Organizations) Leadership, to honor individuals or non-profit organizations, professional associations, not-for-profit healthcare organizations, or private, non-profit institutions of K-12 or higher learning.
Nominees will be accepted in one category only.
Leadership and Inspirational Award nominations are limited only by the creativity of the person completing the nomination form.
Project nomination fee is $75. (Yes, even for people.)
Four photos of the project should be submitted in a digital format with the.png or.jpg extension. Only one photo of a person is necessary.
No items except those requested in this document will be submitted to the jury for review.
In addition to the digital images, a 36” x 36” Project Board with a minimal frame (for strength) must be submitted and received with each entry of a project by October 20, 2014.
LEADERSHIP AWARDS do not require project boards.
