Our next “Start Something” story comes from a well-known photographer around the Charleston area, Aaron Fryson of Jaboy Photography. He became a lover of photography simply because he saw a need that needed to be filled within the community! He took the time to share his story with the Create WV team:
What cool idea or project did you start?
I started a Fashion Photography company, one of the first in Charleston, West Virginia. We specialize in a unique perspective of photography.
How was this started?
Personal Saving – I wanted to shoot for years and did not feel like I would be able to get a loan so I saved for my first equipment. It was considered budget equipment but then later when the business started making money I purchased better gear.
What was the motivation behind starting this idea?
Lack of Fashion Photography in this state. I always see pictures but none that look like various magazines that have that fashion edge.
How many people/workers are involved in this project/company?
I shoot alone but work with Yun Liang for scheduling and ideas
What was or is the goal for this “start up?”
To create a market that is not in this area.
