According to experts, we’re in for more of these freak storms, floods, and natural disasters. Throw in man-made disasters (do you really need references?) and you’ve got every reason to wonder about the future of housing, communities, and public places.

We love our places in West Virginia, and while it’s true that we’re really good at coming together for crisis after crisis, and we can make do with very little, there is an argument to be made for planning and design for resilient, durable, healthy homes and communities. In some places, hope floats in the form of flood accommodating housing design. In others, it’s on stilts, or incorporates other super cool ideas that make homes and communities more resilient.
