Want to help capture photos in danger or compromised by flood waters?
Want a chance to build bridges between generations?
Are you looking for meaningful ways to engage those who are too young or too old to do the dangerous work being done in flooded homes and communities? Here’s the plan:
1. Sign up to be a #DIGISO digital and social media volunteer by simply adding your email and first name to our contact list. Be sure to select the DIGISO list, and any other categories you’re interested in on the signup page. *Even if you’re already on the Create WV mailing list, you can sign up for this particular initiative and others–just follow THIS LINK!
2. Watch your email for special instructions/best practices for helping others capture and preserve their memories, experiences, oral histories, etc.
THE IDEA BEHIND THIS VOLUNTEER INITIATIVE: Students and other savvy digital and social media (#DIGISO) users can lend their native digital and social media skills to work with families in need to set up free file and photo sharing accounts so family pictures, memories, oral histories can finally be shared with loved ones.
The #CREATEWV #DIGISO volunteer would set up an online account for each family (Google Drive, Flickr, Picassa, FB, whatever) and begin to use an app like Photomyne to capture and upload batches of photos.
Then the DIGISO volunteer would help share the login information with other family members so they can share, tag, and upload among family members to tag and narrate.
The #DIGISO volunteer will then train the family on how to sign in, upload, etc (perhaps train more than one family member so there is redundancy), and then would move on to the next person or family in need.
Directions, passwords would be texted to multiple family members so pics don’t get lost in cyberspace.
Volunteers and family members can share their stories about this experience using #DIGISO #CREATEWV #WVSTRONG, #WVFLOOD hashtags so we can see if this social experiment works.
If you or people you know are interested in volunteering your digital skills for this effort, share this sign up link with them!
